The Evolution Of The Smartphone Camera

Source : www.filehippo.com
I remember getting my first camera as a kid. It was a big bulky basic Ricoh camera that needed a traditional film roll to be inserted before you could take any pictures. Of course at the time I thought it was wonderful, despite the fact that half the time most of my pictures either came out blurry or not at all. When we finally got a digital camera I remember thinking it was the best thing ever, being able to see what you had captured straight away. For mum too this was a revelation because it meant she could just delete all the ones she didn’t like of herself straight away!

Yet if we fast forward in time, we see that camera phones have once again brought in a whole new approach to not just taking photos and videos but also sharing them. The quality of camera has vastly improved too and now, when a mobile company releases a new flagship handset, one of the big features is the camera. The infographic below has some interesting facts and figures on how and why people are turning to smartphones to capture their lives – I was left wondering whether the time will come when the smartphone camera will be so good, that no one will use the traditional digital camera anymore and whether they will become as redundant as my first big bulky basic Ricoh. What do you think?

Divide Numbers in Excel

We know how to divide, by paper. Or, we can just try to solve the problem using the calculator. Now, can you divide in Excel? Well, multiplication is the opposite of division, and it does not mean you enter =PRODUCT(number1-number2). So, what is the formula? How do I do it? Well, let's see below.

Steps

  1. Divide Numbers in Excel Step 1.jpg

    Open Excel 2007 or 2010.
  2. Divide Numbers in Excel Step 2.jpg

    On any cell, type =QUOTIENT(numerator,denominator).
    • Replace numerator and denominator with the numbers you want to divide.
  3. Divide Numbers in Excel Step 3.jpg

On the right of that cell, type =QUOTIENT(numerator, denominator) again.
    • Replace numerator and denominator with 2 numbers.
  4. Divide Numbers in Excel Step 4.jpg

Now, on the right of the second cell, type the formula again. This time, type the two cells that you want to divide.

Windows 9 Preview To Come in Q2-Q3 2015

It might very well be only a rumor, but where there is smoke, there’s fire; and what we’re hearing is that the next version of Windows, Windows 9, is already in the works. That’s only logical, as it does take Microsoft a while to get their things together, in spite of erstwhile Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer saying that rapid deployment of their products is integral to their success.
So, while the company is still “forcing” people to update to Windows 8.1, even pushing back the initial deadline it set for updating, rumors about Windows 9 are already starting to make the rounds.
Windows 9
This particular piece of info comes from infamous leaker FaiKee, who posted a screenshot in MyDigitalLife’s forum.
Windows 9
If you’re thinking that image says 02-03 and not Q2-Q3, you can be forgiven. That was my initial reaction as well, but the Windows 9 leaker has tweeted to clarify, saying:

Upto now, I could only see Neowin News said the correct thing: It is Q2-Q3, not 02-03, nor Feb. 3, 2015. LOL.
While skepticism surely is understandable, FaiKee has been known to leak such announcements way before Microsoft releases the official word. Perhaps this time, FaiKee is right once again. Although, whether it’s 02-03 or Q2-Q3, there’s still quite a long wait for Windows 9, to be sure. There are many other analysts and speculators who have made their own predictions as to when the next version of the operating system will be released, and they vary. The only common thing: it will be in 2015.
In the meantime, you’ll have to be content with Windows 8 and make sure that you update before Microsoft puts the hammer down and decides not to extend its deadline anymore.
Given the long waiting time we have ahead of us, what do you want to see in Windows 9? What do you want to be exterminated from Windows 8?

New Skype 6.16.0.105 free download

Skype is the most popular free voice-over IP and instant messaging service globally. It allows users to text, video and voice call over the internet. Users can also call landlines and mobiles at competitive rates using Skype credit, premium accounts and subscriptions. Skype was publically released in 2003 and now accounts for roughly a third of all international calling minutes. Skype uses P2P technology to connect users on a multitude of platforms including desktop, mobile and tablet. The call quality (depending on your internet signal) and additional features like conversation history, conference calling and secure file transfer are excellent. There have been some criticisms over the programs bandwidth usage and security vulnerabilities.
Skype Calling
Once you’ve downloaded and installed Skype, you will need to create a user profile and unique Skype name. You can then search for other users in the Skype directory or call them directly using their Skype name. Voice chat comes with conference calling, secure file transfer and a highly secure end to end encryption. Video chat is available on higher bandwidth connections and makes keeping up with distant family/friends much more interactive. Video conferencing and the Screenshare features make Skype popular with the corporate market. Skype’s text chat client features group chat, chat history, message editing and emoticons. Skype also enables calls to landlines and mobiles using a premium paid service.
Easy to Use
Skype’s UI is very intuitive and easy to use. All the classic messaging service features like profiles, online status, contacts and recent history are displayed in the left navigation. Here you will also find the Skype directory, group options, a search box and premium calling buttons. The right side (main window) opens the content you select. For individual contacts you will see a text message box, chat history and calling options.
Call Quality
On fast internet connections Skype call quality is excellent for both voice and video calls. The hybrid peer-to-peer client server system means the sound quality is better than most VoIP services. That being said, if you do have a slower internet connection, voice calls may be interrupted or delayed. Video calls will be intermittent and pixelated. Text chat will only be affected by very poor connections. The call quality button will give you detailed information on the expected call quality for each of your contacts (as the quality depends on both parties internet connection).
Summary
If you’re looking for a reliable and easy to use VoIP client, you’ll find it hard to beat Skype. Microsoft’s purchase of Skype in 2011 has further stabilized the platform and accelerated development as Microsoft used Skype to replace its aging messaging service Windows Live Messenger. Click on the green download button to give it a try.
Microsoft no longer allows hosting of their installers. So we are redirecting to their download page.

Facebook top tips n trick

Below is a listing of our top 10 tips for the popular social networking website Facebook.

Hide users, games, polls, etc.

It quickly gets annoying seeing some users posts, game invites, polls, etc. Hovering your mouse to the right of the post and clicking the Hide button as shown below can hide any post. Once this button is pressed you'll be prompted with the option to hide that user or in the case of a Facebook application the option to hide that application from ever showing up on your profile.
Hide Facebook users, games, polls, etc.
To unhide someone or unblock an application click the Edit Options link in the bottom right corner of the news feed as shown below.
Facebook unhide friends
Greasemonkey and FB Purity
Although Facebook does not allow the ability to hide friends getting new friends messages, friends becoming fans of something, and some application messages they can still be hidden with browser add-ons. If you're running Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Opera, or Safari we suggest installing the Facebook Purity add-on.

Update your privacy settings

Click Account in the top right corner of the Facebook window and then click Privacy settings to adjust who is capable of seeing what on your Facebook profile. We highly recommend going through all the privacy settings to verify your privacy is properly protected.
Anything that is not set to friends only or friends of friends can be seen by anyone searching on the Internet. Below is a few things we recommend for most users.
  1. Under Search in Privacy settings uncheck Public Search Results. This will prevent users from finding your account and profile picture in search results such as Google
  2. Under Application settings, make sure you're only allowing applications you want to have access to your information. Applications that you grant rights to can have access to your Facebook profile information.
  • If you're curious to see how a program or web page connect to the Facebook API can see your profile see Tip135.

Use the Facebook top bar for navigation

Facebook navigation
Knowing how to properly navigate is vital if you want to get the most out of Facebook. Below is a brief description of each of the available options in the top bar as shown above.
Home (facebook logo) - Clicking this logo takes you to your wall (News Feed) that shows all friends recent posts.
Friend requests - If any friend requests are waiting to be approved this icon shows a notification of how many friends are waiting for approval. This icon can also be clicked when you want to view any friend recommendations or search for friends on Facebook.
Messages - This section allows you to send and receive private messages between one or more people you're friends with.
Notifications - Any time a friend or Facebook application creates a new post you'll be notified in this section. Clicking this icon shows all recent notifications. If you want to change what is capable of sending you notifications including any Facebook applications or games click the See All Notifications link at the bottom and check or uncheck what you want to be notified on.
Search - Finally, the search box in Facebook can be a powerful tool that can be used to quickly find any current friends or people on Facebook. In addition searching for terms such as a company name, product, sports team, music band, etc. will find fan pages and groups that can be joined.

Modify your account notifications

Keep your e-mail and your cell phone clean by updating or eliminate Facebook notifications or keep more up-to-date by adding new notifications. Facebook notifications can be added and removed by clicking Account link in the top right corner, then Account Settings, and then clicking the Notifications tab.

Top News and Most Recent

Facebook News and most Recent
By default Facebook displays your wall postings in the News format, which means it only displays posts it believes are most relevant to you. These results are based on your past interaction with your friends. If you want to see every post made by all your friends that are not hidden click the Most recent link in the upper right section of your news feed as shown in the above picture example.
If you want to adjust who shows up manually click the Edit Options in the bottom right corner of your news feed.
Facebook unhide friends

View High School work friends

If you've added your High School or previous Work locations to your profile, quickly see all classmates and co-workers on Facebook by clicking the link in your Info tab under your profile.

Quickly change profile picture

Your profile picture can be quickly changed to any other picture by visiting your profile, hovering the mouse over your current profile picture, and clicking the Change Picture link that appears in the top right corner of the picture.

Don't post private information on friend's walls on in comments

When you make a post on a friend's wall or in any of their comments realize that any of their friends are going to be able to see that post. If you want for something to remain only between you and a friend send them a Facebook message instead.

Suggestions and random friend invites

As you get more friends on Facebook it will begin making friend, groups, and fan suggestions. These are suggestions made by Facebook and not your friends. Unless these are something you're interested in they can be ignored.
This same rule can be applied to people who may want to be your friend that you don't know. If you don't know someone don't accept his or her friend invite. Once someone becomes your friend they'll have access to any information your friends are capable of seeing.

Tag your Facebook friends in your photos

Always make sure to tag any of your Facebook friends that are in pictures you upload. However, never tag someone who is not in the picture. When someone is tagged in a photo that picture is automatically added to that persons profile and is a great way to share pictures with all friends.

How to Instal Computer Driver

Depending on how the driver has been packaged is what determines how the driver will be installed. Below is additional information about each of the methods developers use to distribute their drivers and how you would install the drivers in Microsoft Windows.

General driver tips

Below are some general insights to help prevent any additional frustration that may be encountered while installing drivers.

Drivers on CD or floppy diskettes

Almost all computer and hardware manufacturers include a group of drivers for different hardware devices and often for each of the supported versions of Windows. For example, the driver CD you receive with your printer likely contains the drivers for dozens of different printers. Not just the printer you purchased, which means when installing the drivers make sure you are installing the drivers for your printer, not another printer model and that you are installing it for the version of Windows you are running on your computer.
Below is an example of how a file structure may look on your disk.
CD Example:
-PrinterA100
--Win9x
--Win2k
--WinXP
-PrinterA200
--Win9x
--Win2k
--WinXP
-PrinterB100
--Win9x
--Win2k
--WinXP
If for example you had a PrinterA200 and were using Windows XP you would find your drivers in the PrinterA200\WinXP directory.

Downloading drivers

Almost all drivers you download are going to be a single file if the file is not an executable file it is almost definitely a compressed file that contains all the driver files. In order to install the driver you will first need to uncompress the file.
When extracting or uncompressing the drivers make sure to remember where you place the folder containing the drivers since you need to point Windows to this folder when installing the drivers. We usually recommend users install the driver files in a folder on their desktop as it is an easy place to remember and locate and can be removed after completed.
Finally, the single file or the files extracted from the compressed file can be deleted after you have finished installing the drivers.

Executable

Many computer and hardware manufacturers today are pre-packaging their drivers into executable files or have the drivers installed through the setup file, which means double-clicking the setup file or the file you download should install the drivers to the computer for you.
Note: Many developers may package their drivers in a compressed file, which means before looking for the setup file you may need to uncompress the downloaded file. Information about doing this was explained above. If after uncompressing the file it still does not contain an executable file, setup file, or does not install your hardware device continue with the below recommendations.
Finally, if you were successful in installing your drivers make sure to reboot the computer after the drivers have been installed.

Using the have disk option

Often computer manufacturers and hardware manufacturers also place the drivers on the CD, diskette, or download for Windows to find and use during its hardware detection. Below are steps on how to install drivers for a new device and upgrade a devices driver for this setup.
Installing a new device
  1. Open Windows Device Manager.
  2. In the Device Manager make sure the device you are attempting to install is not already listed from past install attempts. If the device is found highlight it and remove it from Device Manager to prevent any conflicts during the install.
  3. Once Device Manager looks ok reboot the computer.
  4. As the computer is rebooting an install new hardware wizard should appear if Windows detects the new hardware using this wizard you should be able to point Windows to the folder containing your drivers either on the CD, diskette, or the folder containing the files you downloaded.
If Windows does not detect any new hardware open Control Panel and double-click the Add hardware icon to run the hardware detection wizard. During the steps you have the option to tell Windows you have a disk containing the drivers for your new hardware device, at this point Windows to the directory containing the drivers for your device.
Once drivers have been installed reboot.
Upgrading drivers for pre-existing device
  1. Open Windows Device Manager.
  2. In the Device Manager locate the device you want to update.
  3. Right-click the device and click Properties.
  4. In the Properties window click the Driver tab.
  5. Click the Update Driver button.
  6. In the Hardware Update Wizard point Windows to the location of the updated drivers on your hard drive
Once drivers have been installed reboot.

Install through the .inf file

Finally, if the above recommendations do not work the installation instructions for drivers and hardware devices are always contained in a .inf file that is located within the drivers.
Locate the .inf for your version of Windows, right-click that file and choose the option for install. Note this is a very raw form of installing a drivers and it is important that you make sure you are installing the correct .inf file and not a .inf file for another device or for a different version of Windows.
Once you have right-clicked and installed the driver, reboot the computer.
One of the above three recommendations should have installed or updated the drivers successfully onto the computer. If you are still having difficulties getting the device to install it's possible you are not encountering a hardware issue and not an issue with the drivers. Refer to the troubleshooting steps for your hardware device for additional help and information.

How to Connect Your PC to Your HDTV

One way of having a secondary display for your PC is to use an HDTV as a secondary monitor. To know more, scroll down to step 1.

Steps

  1. Get an HDMI cable. You can purchase HDMI cables from online sources like eBay or Amazon.
    • Make sure the cable are long enough; around 15 feet should be good.
  2. Plug the HDMI cable into your computer’s video card. At the back of a desktop computer, or in the sides of a laptop, look for the HDMI port. For desktops, it should be where the monitor is plugged in horizontally.
    • If your desktop’s motherboard supports HDMI output, it may be located around the upper area to the rear of your unit (this only applies if you do not have a dedicated video card installed and are using integrated graphics on your motherboard).
  3. Plug the HDMI cable into the TV. The TV should have two HDMI ports at the back. Plug the HDMI cable into the first port, denoted by the number 1.
  4. Turn on both the TV and the computer.
  5. Switch the channel on the TV to the HDMI. The TV should then act as a secondary screen for your PC.

First, you should learn the basics of computer hardware. Open up your PC and check out the internals. Next, you should learn about computer operating systems; Windows/Linux/Android/Mac. If you have a friend who is good with computers, feel free to ask him/her for tips or explanations on certain components on the computer or operating system that you are wondering about.
  2. Be a Computer Genius Step 2.jpg
Go to the Internet and type in something on Google like "computers for beginners" or go to the store and buy the book, "Computers for Dummies". Most of your answers about computers can be answered on the computer using Google. If you can't find your answer on Google, try consulting online forums or social networking websites such as StackOverFlow.
  3. Be a Computer Genius Step 3.jpg
Experiment with what you know and thus learn what you don't know.
  4. Be a Computer Genius Step 4.jpg
Study programming languages such as HTML, JavaScript, PHP, SQL,Visual basic and Java. Every computer genius knows at least one or two programming languages. And at the very least, you should know HTML.
  5. Be a Computer Genius Step 5.jpg
Take computer classes at your high school, community college, or university.
  6. Be a Computer Genius Step 6.jpg
Explore everything with your computer and make an effort to learn something new every time that you get behind the computer.

Google Now Helps You Get Your Shopping Done

Google Now has a new purpose: reminding you to spend money. With the latest update to Google Search, Android users will soon begin receiving notifications when nearby retailers carry an item they've recently searched for online. If you've queried Google about a new pair of hiking boots or a toy for your kid, don't be surprised if those items automatically appear in a Google Now card — assuming a nearby store actually carries them. If so, you'll see the products, their prices, and the stores where you can find them show up in a card meant to "remind you that you wanted them," Google says. It's not clear how many products Google keeps track of at any one time, nor how long it will hang onto items and check if you can buy them locally.
Unfortunately, even if it finds a match, Google Now can't tell you whether an item is in stock at a given retailer; you'll still need to call or go in to confirm availability. Like other cards, you can turn off tracking via Google Now's settings. (That might be a good idea if you often share your phone and want to avoid gift spoilers, for instance.) Google has been busy improving its personal assistant of late. In recent weeks, the company has added offline support and introduced a helpful feature that remembers where you parked your car.

Who needs Apple? iPhone apps are coming to Android!

Android and iOS have long been divided by their apps – or lack of on each platform – with many developers locking their own apps onto one platform, much to the disdain of smartphone owners everywhere. But now some smart PhD students are breaking down the wall that separates Android and iOS apps by developing a platform known as Cider, which will let you run iOS apps on your Android phone! Yes, really. Does this sound brilliant or what?
Six PhD students at Columbia University’s Department of Computer Science have been hard at work on a project known as Cider, an operating system compatibility architecture that can run apps built for different operating systems on the same smartphone or tablet. In a nutshell, instead of using a virtual machine, Cider achieves its task by effectively translating the foreign iOS code of an app that lets Android’s kernel run the app natively – of course, the specifics are complex, but the results are simple: you’ve got iOS apps running on Google’s own mobile operating system.
Moto E: The world’s best budget smartphone just got even cheaper
Currently, the results show that it’s far from perfect, with many features missing from apps: GPS, cameras and Bluetooth, for example, are not supported at the moment, as the iOS app isn’t able to interface with its Android equivalent hardware feature, and the app itself will fail if it runs into a problem. Still, it’s a promising start for the six students, and it could pave the way for even more iOS apps to run natively on Android, all without any porting or tweaking needing to be done on the developer’s end – that means it could make development even easier than before, giving you even more choice of what apps you can play with on your Android blower. See Cider in action in the video below.
What iOS apps would you like to see run on your Android phone? Is there anything you’re still desperate to get your hands on, or do you think the Google Play store has everything you need? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
